I've always loved being behind the camera, capturing snippets of life that other people miss.
In high school my best friend named my camera, saying that because it has its own chair at lunch, it should have a name: Bernard.
Photography has showed me new ways of perceiving the world, its people, and their cultures. I love including colors, finding interesting patterns, and using natural light to compose my photos. Each photo and video tells a story, and I love that anyone, from any culture in the world, literate or illiterate, can understand what message visual arts convey.
Digital marketing | Video | Social media
After working on my high school and college yearbook's staff as the photography editor, I decided to pursue a Master's in Digital Media Production in Oxford, UK to expand my horizons beyond photography. I studied video production, TV journalism, 3D character modeling, and web media.
I taught myself Photoshop, Illustrator, and inDesign and developed a knack for graphic design while working at ReBoot Career Accelerator for Women in Silicon Valley & Chicago. I also set up and managed ReBoot's social media accounts, and training my colleagues on how to best leverage these platforms for marketing a startup.
In the fall of 2016, I took a 10 week online branding course aimed at entrepreneurs and small businesses. The class was taught by Julie Cottineau, former VP of Brand at Virgin.
Tech Training (or is it 'tech therapy' for some?)
From a young age, I've been my family's go-to tech person. I spent several hours answering my grandparent's computer questions ... entirely in Spanish. While working at ReBoot, I led sessions on LinkedIn, Evernote, laptop productivity, Google, social media, and more. These sessions were aimed at women who were returning to work, and focused on updating their tech skills for the modern workplace. I have a patient and clear teaching style, and love to get people to their "A-ha!" moment with tech.
